Spring Cleaning

Since our weather is incredibly mild for February, I’ve gotten spring on the mind. I’m cleaning my studio today, thoroughly. Getting it ready for a fresh new body of work, starting tomorrow. I’m thinking it’s time to give the flowers and still life a rest. Time for something new:

Conceptual Art using Portraiture. A series potentially called Specimens of a Negro.

Will be back to share, as the process develops.

“Piss Off”

No it’s not a typo. “Piss Off” was used as the title rather than “Pissed Off.” The title expresses an outbound emotion, while the second saying expresses an inbound emotional state that can be expressed outwardly. This is a gestural study, focused around expressive line quality and point of view. It was done using direct observation.

This vine charcoal, gesture drawing on arches printmaking paper will be on view and is for sale, at Water Street Studio at 160 Water Street, Batavia, IL from May 16 – June 27, 2015 along with 37 other artist’s works. Inquiries can be made by calling (630) 761-9977

The title of the exhibition is “Contemporary Portraits.” Juried by guest juror Anne Harris from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, this show features work exploring images and understanding of the human face. The opening reception is free to the public and takes place May 16th from 5-8 pm with a cash bar and free h’or oeuvres.
